Children’s Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS)
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a national, means tested program that provides eligible children with a capped benefit for basic dental services. It is aimed to improve access to dental services for children. Here at St John Dental we can bulk-bill eligible children so there is nothing to pay on the day. If you would like to find out if your child is eligible, call our receptionist with your Medicare card number and we can check for you.
What is covered in CDBS?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides up to $1052* in basic dental services over two calendar years. Services covered include:
- Check-ups and cleans
- X-rays
- Fillings
- Fissure sealing
- Root canals
- Extractions
Orthodontic, cosmetic and some other exclusions apply. Please note this scheme is means tested and some procedures are not covered.
Eligibility for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule
To be eligible to receive the Child Dental Benefits Schedule your child must meet the following criteria:
- 0-17 years old
- Eligible for Medicare
- Receive a payment or parents receive a payment from the Australian Government at least once per year.

It is always advisable to book an appointment so we can allocate enough time to help you. There are occasions when we can accept walk in patients, however patients must be prepared to sit and wait until a dentist becomes free.
