Whooping Cough Vaccine
Whooping cough (Pertussis) is a highly infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. It affects the respiratory tract, leading to pneumonia, brain damage and occasionally death.
Whooping cough vaccinations, which are only available as a combination vaccine that includes other antigens such as tetanus and diphtheria, are a safe and effective way to protect you and your family.
Whooping cough vaccinations are recommended for:
- Children aged 2 months, 4 months, 6 months and 18 months
- Children aged 4 and between 10 to 15 years old
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Healthcare workers
- Early childhood carers and educators
- People in close contact with infants
